Children are involved in discussing their activities and how they feel about them from the beginning of their time in the setting. Teachers, through discussion and observation, make detailed assessments of each child’s progress, keeping careful records that build a comprehensive picture over the course of the year. Many of these records include sample work and photographs, which are shared with parents Assessmentkeeping them informed on their academic advancement and overall development. Assessments give insight into children’s interests, achievements and possible difficulties in their learning, from which next steps in learning and teaching can be planned. It also helps ensure early identification of Special Educational Needs and particular abilities. Practitioners can identify areas of improvement.
At AKG, children’s progress is monitored in all the seven areas of learning on a regular basis. Individual progress is observed and recorded which form a basis for lesson plans to meet the necessary goals. These assessments are shared with the parents oContinuous Professional Development
Since the world that teachers are preparing children to enter, is changing so rapidly, and because the teaching skills required are evolving likewise, no initial course of teacher education can be sufficient to prepare a teacher for a career of 30 or 40 years. Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is the process by which teachers reflect upon their competencies, keep them up to date, and develop them further.
The education authorities at Ambassador Kindergarten support this process immensely in order to upgrade the teaching staff, which in turn benefits the children of our school.CPD
Many CPDs have been conducted in the school over the years. For e.g. Brain gym, Child Protection Policy, Cyber bullying, Social media and security, Internal and External Communication, Phonics, SEN children workshop, CPD for guided reading, mark making etc.
Highlights of some of the CPDs:
Brain Gym workshop was conducted by EYES. It was an informative session held by Ms. Michelle and her associate on retained reflexes. Teachers were educated on the importance and different activities they could do with children to help them concentrate and learn better.
Our Executive Principal conducted ‘Child Protection Policy’ workshops. She enlightened the teachers of AKG on different ways through which children are exploited and how we as teachers, could make the school environment safe for them to learn in. School is the second home to children and we must take care of their well-being to help children grow as responsible members of the society and lead happy lives!
The Behavior Policy workshop was introduced in AKG by our Executive Principal to help promote good behavior, self-discipline and respect;
-ensure that pupils complete assigned work
-regulate the conduct of pupils
Teachers were given proper guidelines to understand the behavior policy and ways to be consistent and apply it to improve the conduct and discipline of the class and school.
Cyberbullying is the use of information technology to repeatedly harm or harass other people in a deliberate manner According to U.S. Legal Definitions, Cyber-bullying could be limited to posting rumors or gossips about a person in the internet bringing about hatred in other’s minds; or it may go to the extent of personally identifying victims and publishing materials severely defaming and humiliating them. With the increase in use of these technologies, cyber bullying has become increasingly common, especially among teenagers. Awareness has also risen, in school and among teachers to avoid getting into any such conditions.
Social media and security workshop was conducted by our IT Manager to enable the teachers to safeguard their mailing system and possible ways of getting bullied online.
These are a few from the list. Teachers have undergone a lot of CPDs; and it is an ongoing process supported by Ambassador Kindergarten for their valued teachers! a termly basis.
